The FiLLi origin story

← Back to Chai Culture

1991: A Stall in Deira

FiLLi started as a small chai stall in Deira, Dubai — one man, one recipe, and a commitment to making chai the way it was meant to be made. No shortcuts. Fresh spices. Full-fat milk. Brewed to order. The word spread through taxi drivers, construction workers, and students — the people who knew good chai.

2010s: The Growth Decade

What started as a neighbourhood institution became a city-wide phenomenon. FiLLi expanded across Dubai, then Abu Dhabi, then the wider UAE. The signature Zafran Chai became the drink that defined the brand — a blend that could not be replicated because the sourcing, the ratios, and the technique were proprietary.

Today: 80+ Stores, 10 Countries

FiLLi now operates in the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Nepal, India, Pakistan, the UK, the USA, Canada, and Mauritius. But the principle has not changed: every cup is brewed, not made from concentrate. Every store smells like fresh cardamom and saffron. And the people who work the counters are trained in the same techniques that started it all.
